In Memoriam Donald Tober

The trustees and staff of the American Austrian Foundation mourn the passing, and celebrate the life, of our longtime board member, Donald Tober. Donald was not only a significant benefactor of our medical programs, including the Open Medical Institute, but also an enthusiastic participant and supporter of our cultural programs, both in New York and Salzburg.

As soon as he joined the board, Donald, a graduate of Harvard Law School, and never one to do anything without performing due diligence, accompanied AAF's Chairman, Tom McGrath to Salzburg and spent a week at Schloss Arenberg “attending” the Urology seminar. He enjoyed his discussions with Dr. Carl Olsson, one of urology’s most famous physicians. Donald and his wife, Barbara, were convinced that OMI’s mission was worthwhile. So much so, that they came to Salzburg for a joint board meeting with colleagues from the Salzburg Stiftung and celebrated Barbara’s birthday at Schloss Anif, the home of the Salzburg Stiftung's Chairman, Johannes Moy, with a chamber music concert performed by members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

We will miss Donald’s wry wit, elegance and generosity of spirit.
