2018-10-13 10:00 | Cultural Luncheon, May 2, 2018, New York

On May 2, 2018, the AAF honored music legends Dame Julie Andrews and Anna Netrebko at its second Cultural Luncheon. Ronald Lauder introduced Dame Andrews and Heinrich Spaengler introduced Anna Netrebko. Both awardees made brief remarks and received beautiful crystal candy jars generously donated Lobmeyr, Vienna. More than 180 guests enjoyed Wienerschnitzel followed by berries with chocolates from Demel, Vienna’s famous patisserie. The event raised over $106,000 and will be used to sponsor the AAF Young Curators Exchange Program. Both 2017 recipients, Georg Plattner from Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum and Adam Eaker from the Metropolitan Museum attended the luncheon. (link to photos)

On May 3rd, AAF Board Member, Dr. Nany Wolf hosted a dinner to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the OMI Cleveland Clinic Seminars and honor the Cleveland Clinic faculty members. The Clinic’s newly elected CEO, Dr. Thomas Mihaljevic, who was also the first OMI Cleveland Clinic Cardiac Surgery course director attended the cocktail reception and reiterated the Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to the OMI. This year’s Vienna School of Medicine Gala took place on October 15th in the historic van Swieten Saal of the Medical University of Vienna. Drs. Ernst Wolner and Günther Laufer spoke on the history of and advances in Cardiac Surgery and Dr. Josef Smolen on incredible discoveries made in Vienna to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis.

The Vienna City of Science Symposium, which is jointly organized with the Vienna Science and Technology Fund will take place on Friday, November 16, 2018, 2:00 - 5:00 pm at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York.

Augustine Choi, MD (Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM)) and Wolfgang Aulitzky, MD (Associate Dean for International Medicine and Distance Learning (WCM)) will host this year’s Symposium.

The 2018 topic is on ”Molecular Medicine- from Immunodefiency to COPD“ with lectures presented by Augustine Choi, MD and Kaan Boztug, MD (Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases), Fernando Martinez, MD (Chief Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York) - He will give a speech on “COPD: „How does our scientific understanding inform therapeutic decisions“ - and Thomas Wekerle, MD (Professor of Transplantation Immunology, Medical University of Vienna). >> Program
